We took part in the redevelopment of Place de Paris in Élancourt by delivering urban landscaping in corten steel to revitalise this public space. The main goal was to create shaded, comfortable seating areas while reducing impermeable surfaces to provide residents with cool and convivial spaces.

ENERGISING THE SPACE AND ENHANCING WELL-BEING

Design, manufacturing, delivery

In collaboration with the local authority, we addressed a dual objective:

  1. Energise Place de Paris by creating a welcoming seating area where people can stop, relax, or chat.
  2. Enhance the living environment by removing impermeable surfaces to offer more shaded and greener areas, especially around the 19 landscaped islands.

Thanks to its 19 green islands, the square now has a renewed identity. Residents enjoy a more pleasant setting, conducive to social interaction and relaxation.

Modular, user-friendly seating areas

One of the standout features of this corten steel urban furniture project is the creation of 267 linear metres of landscaped islands with corten steel edging, benches, and backrests, along with 66 additional metres of corten borders.

The seating elements are made of raw robinia, a hardwood renowned for its strength and durability outdoors.

This wood/metal combination blends seamlessly into the natural setting while adding a contemporary touch. The backrests and borders, integrated into bottomless planters, meet all usage and comfort needs while supporting healthy plant growth to provide shade and coolness.

Corten steel: durability and refined aesthetics

Choosing corten steel for this urban landscaping project provides several benefits:

  • High corrosion resistance: the corten patina, created by sandblasting and activation, stabilises naturally and resists wear.
  • A warm, distinctive finish: the rust-like colour offers strong visual identity and blends well with the lighter tone of raw robinia.
  • Low maintenance: thanks to its stabilised finish, corten requires no extra treatment to retain its durability and aesthetics.

We used our expertise in folding, welding and laser cutting to produce several custom DUALIS waste bins branded with the city’s logo. This customisation reinforces the visual identity of the square and encourages selective waste sorting.

Our know-how: from design to installation

Our mission went far beyond simply delivering urban furniture. We also:

  • Designed the products (benches, borders, planters, etc.) according to the technical and visual requirements.
  • Manufactured the parts in-house, using our expertise in metal welding, laser cutting, and folding.
  • Delivered and installed the equipment on-site, in coordination with Wattelez TP, ensuring perfect alignment with the project goals.

This end-to-end approach allowed us to guarantee both aesthetic coherence and technical performance for the city.

A functional and attractive public space

Place de Paris in Élancourt is a great example of how corten steel urban landscaping can improve the urban experience. By offering shaded, comfortable seating in a revitalized green setting, this space encourages walking, resting, and socializing.

In the long term, vegetation and durable materials contribute to:

  • Reducing the heat island effect through the use of greenery and permeable surfaces.
  • Improving urban well-being by offering more shaded, welcoming areas.
  • Boosting neighbourhood appeal with a clean, thoughtful design that users appreciate.
