A CUSTOM-DESIGNED SPACE

The Luxeuil-Les-Bains City Hall wishes to redevelop the plaza in front of City Hall to create a green space and provide seating for residents and visitors. Atech was contacted because City Hall wanted to install planters with bases and seating. After several discussions with our experts, a project proposal was developed. This project is the result of a collaboration between the city council, Atech, and an architect who designed the seating. For this project, the idea is to propose a design that fits not only the square but also the various buildings surrounding it in a unity issue. To develop a public square is a project that requires global thinking, there are many criteria to take into account in order to guarantee a Urban planning quality.

Landscaping and planting

The goal of this project is to create a public square with seating and greenery.

Not far away, a museum has just opened. The town hall wishes to offer an additional space where visitors can settle down for a moment close to the proposed cultural activities.

The initial development idea is to install planters with bases and seating. There's a desire to revitalize this mineralized space through plants. The integration of plants within the arrangements participate in well-being of the user and promotes the development of the biodiversity.

Material selection and realization:

Corten Due to the slope of the square, the bins with bottoms were replaced with bottomless bins, which are better suited for in-ground installation and are more stable. All the landscaping will be done with activated and stabilized Corten steel.

The stabilized base surface was chosen to limit dirt for users and ensure aesthetic consistency with the corten steel elements present at the nearby museum.

Woods Finally, the wood chosen for the seats is the Moabi, an exotic wood. Because over time it develops a patina and becomes a stable wood that doesn't need a saturator.

The choice of materials offers an interesting visual unity. Corten steel emphasizes the beds, bringing a natural character. Then, the wooden seats blend warmly into the overall design.

Production:
The open-bottomed planters are paneled with a back-panel. Thanks to this, we performed a laser cut to add the city's logo. Furthermore, the open-bottomed planters offer the possibility of installing larger trees as their roots communicate with the soil. This solution is better suited for the site.

The borders connect the different beds. Thus, they create a perennial bed where the individual seating areas are integrated. An architect designed these minimalist seating areas to make this project unique.
