Tembé Art: A Local Art Form That Endures
Developed for the city of Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni, the ART Tembé range highlights local cultural heritage through unique urban furniture design. Benches, bins, and barriers incorporate the characteristic geometric patterns of Tembé art to create a strong and cohesive visual identity in public spaces.

Benches with an identity-driven design
The ART Tembé benches combine user comfort with the valorization of local heritage. Their cutouts incorporate traditional Tembé art motifs, bringing a strong cultural dimension to urban development.
Designed for public spaces, they offer residents and visitors pleasant resting areas while contributing to the identity of the place. Their design thus allows the furniture to be integrated into its environment while affirming the unique character of the project.
Beyond their primary function, these benches help create meeting places and foster conviviality within public spaces. They invite pausing, interaction, and a sense of ownership of the space by users.
This achievement illustrates the desire to make urban furniture a genuine element of local expression, capable of combining functionality, aesthetics, and cultural identity. The cut-out patterns thus provide a recognizable visual signature that accompanies the overall design.
A complete range for harmonizing public spaces
The ART Tembé bins and barriers extend this approach by adopting the same graphic codes as the other elements in the range. This design consistency helps create a homogeneous and easily identifiable layout.
Beyond their primary function, these facilities help organize spaces and improve the living environment. They illustrate the desire to combine functionality, durability, and the enhancement of local culture within the same urban development project.
The motifs inspired by Tembé art create a real common thread between the different pieces of equipment. This visual continuity reinforces the identity of the places while bringing an aesthetic dimension to everyday elements.
By combining resting furniture, cleaning equipment, and demarcation devices, the range helps to structure public spaces while maintaining perfect overall coherence. Each element thus contributes to the quality and attractiveness of the landscaping.

A collaboration to serve local culture
The creation of the ART Tembé range was born from a shared desire to celebrate Guyanese cultural heritage through urban furniture. This project brought together Signaux Guyane, artist Franky AMETE, and the ATECH teams around the same goal: to showcase Tembé art in public spaces.
To bring this approach to life, we have adapted our SYNERGIE range of urban furniture by incorporating specific laser cutouts inspired by traditional Tembé art motifs. This collaboration between industrial expertise and artistic expression has resulted in a unique range, where tradition and modernity meet at the heart of urban development.
This achievement demonstrates that it is possible to combine design, usage, and local culture to create unique and easily identifiable public spaces.
