Corten
Standard and custom corten urban furniture
Choosing to install corten urban furniture means choosing originality. A bold choice that translates into a unique aesthetic. Corten lives, evolves, and adapts to its environment. This material combines the characteristics of steel with the warm appearance that we don't usually associate with metal.
Corten steel is a traditional steel in its structure, consisting of iron and carbon. Where it differs is in the addition of various elements that cause the formation of a surface rust layer. Indeed, it contains phosphorus, copper, or nickel, among others. Therefore, following weather conditions, an oxide layer will form. This layer is said to be “self-protecting» in that it sacrifices itself to protect the steel component in depth.
Also called patina, this superficial layer takes on orange to brown hues, depending on the elements. Therefore, the more humid and less sunny the environment, the darker the corten will be. Thus, your equipment will turn brown. Conversely, the drier and sunnier the environment, the lighter the equipment will be in yellow and orange tones. It is considered that the patina takes 1 to 3 years to form. It will be mature when, to the touch, there are no more traces.
Leveraging our experience, we offer you «A» corten. Indeed, it is less porous and of higher quality. Corten steel can be worked using bending, rolling, and welding techniques. These techniques require meticulousness and detailed knowledge of the material.
The advantages of Corten steel urban furniture
Like traditional steel, Corten steel equipment is strong and robust. Therefore, the urban furniture and the’urban equipment will be able to support weight and potential impacts. Likewise, it also offers high fire resistance.
The main advantage of urban Corten steel equipment remains its incomparable aesthetic. Both timeless and bold, it brings an unforgettable effect that makes a lasting impression. Its appearance is versatile in that it harmonizes with any other style! Furthermore, each element is unique as it is subject to the natural elements.
The disadvantages of corten urban furniture
During the patina creation process, rust streaks may appear. Therefore, we advise against installing it on light-colored, porous flooring. Similarly, it should be avoided for equipment that requires direct contact, such as a Corten bench or table. Consequently, Corten steel is best suited for elements like panels, planters, or even trash cans; otherwise, opt for the stabilized sandblasted finish. Furthermore, we recommend applying a stabilizer every 18 months. This should be taken into account for the “maintenance” aspect of the equipment.
We also offer a sanded finish, which accelerates the patina creation process, so you'll receive your furniture ready to be patinated. Or, if you prefer furniture that is already patinated but not stabilized, the activated sanded version is the solution.
Despite everything, the folding technique does not allow us to offer you corten steel tubes.
Material selection it should be done according to your needs. If you are mainly looking for metal robustness, stainless steel, steel, or even zinc can be considered. Unlike aluminum, which is preferred for its flexibility. Corten, on the other hand, ensures a solid, durable, and original product.
