We assisted the city of Béziers in revitalising Place de la Madeleine, located at the heart of a vibrant district. This mineral square is built above an underground car park, making it essential to create a modular landscaped space to accommodate a variety of uses.
We therefore designed and manufactured movable planters in powder-coated aluminium (colour: Brun 2650 Sanded), selected to blend visually with the surrounding architecture. Each planter includes a built-in water reservoir to simplify plant maintenance, and is mounted on twelve castors with jacks, discreetly concealed beneath hatches. These allow the four planters to be moved easily, especially for events held on the square.

Patio landscaping: a green, welcoming space in the city centre
Design, manufacturing, delivery
To address both the constraints of the underground car park and the city’s aesthetic expectations, we leveraged our expertise in design, folding and welding to produce these unique planters. The aluminium structure provides lightness while ensuring excellent strength.
The design features a 50 mm upper lip and variable heights to accommodate both a central tree and shrubs around the perimeter. Specifically, the centre of the planter reaches 1200 mm, while the outer edge stands at 800 mm. A special set of castors was selected for use on a smooth and level surface, ensuring safe occasional movement.

How these movable planters enhance place de la Madeleine
The planters bring warm contrast to the stone façade of the Église de la Madeleine, emphasizing the historical identity of the site.
The Brun 2650 Sanded colour palette complements the character of the neighbourhood, offering a bridge between tradition and modernity.
Scheduled for installation in summer 2024, the project reflects a responsible greening approach. A technical challenge: working above an underground car park
A key constraint of this project was the presence of the underground car park beneath the square. The planters had to meet strict load-bearing and stability criteria. We developed a reinforced aluminium structure that is light enough not to overload the slab, while remaining robust.
To facilitate occasional repositioning, we opted for castors with jacks, suitable for smooth, even surfaces. This modular design allows for easy reconfiguration of the space during events or maintenance operations.
